Go to God First

How do you handle a difficult situation or a serious trial when it comes your way?

Ps 119:147 I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in Your word.

The psalmist is saying, “The first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to rise before the morning and cry out for help from God”.

Sometimes we can get disillusioned and hopeless in the midst of difficult times.  Many times this hopelessness comes because we have not come to God first with the problem.

If you don’t handle a problem by first going to God with it, though the problem may be small, it will end up becoming huge.

That usually results in our focusing on the problem rather than focusing on how God wants to help us through the problem. If you don’t handle a problem by first going to God with it, though the problem may be small, it will end up becoming huge.

A long time ago, I received an ugly report. A dark cloud hovered over me because of it. God showed me—what you do now will determine what will happen in the months to come.  Right then I began to speak the Word of God over the situation and I continued to declare that I will live and not die; I am the head and not the tail.  It wasn’t long after I continued doing that when the cloud gradually lifted off of me.  The trial was still there, but I didn’t have to go through it with that dark cloud over me. I went through it with God’s hand clearly helping me because I went to Him first.

Determine ahead of time that you will go to God first whenever you find yourself facing a difficult situation.

I knew of a couple who established early on in their marriage that whenever they got into an argument with each other, they would stop the argument and go to different rooms and pray about the issue.  Eventually they would come back together and were able to discuss and settle the matter without being contentious with each other.  It wasn’t easy thing to do, but they chose to go to God first when they were faced with conflict.

Determine ahead of time that you will go to God first whenever you find yourself facing a difficult situation.  And if you are in the midst of a trial, and you haven’t been seeking God about it, it’s not too late to start.  First thing in the morning rise up before dawn and cry out for His help.  Hope in Him.  Trust in Him.  And He will bring you through it in victory.
